Random plastic surgeon thinks Madonna had a ‘ribbon lift’

Anyone who has looked at pictures of Madonna over the past year has probably been asking themselves the same questions. What did Madonna do to herself? Are those chicken cutlets on or in her cheeks? Why is she flexing her gristly man-arms? Is that young man her son? And so on.

Plastic surgeon Alex Karidis gave a recent interview to Grazia magazine about what kind of procedures Madge has likely gone in for. First, Dr. Karidis has never treated Madonna, he does not know her personally, so it’s possible he’s just talking out of his ass. Second, I really hate this habit of the tabloids to ask random doctors to diagnosis people they’ve never met, judging them solely by what’s written about them in said tabloids. Now that I’ve got those ethical nitpickings off my chest, let’s gossip about what Madonna’s done to herself.

Dr. Karidis thinks Madonna’s had something called a “ribbon lift”, and the details of this procedure are really gross. According to The Daily Mail, a ribbon lift “uses a dissolvable ribbon implant to lift neck tissues through a short incision around the earlobe. It takes around two months for the ribbon to be absorbed and the results last around three years.” But Dr. Karidis thinks that something went wrong with Madonna’s lift:

While this year’s big winners were all revealed at the Academy Awards last week, one question from the night still remains. Just what is Madonna’s secret?

The 50-year-old had onlookers mesmerised by her incredibly youthful appearance as she arrived at the Oscars ceremony, her super smooth complexion practically glowing under the spotlight. Now there is speculation her wrinkle-free skin is the result of an new procedure called the ‘ribbon lift’.

The 30-minute treatment, which is available at Beverly Hills clinics for around $6,000 (£4,300), uses a dissolvable ribbon implant to lift neck tissues through a short incision around the earlobe. It takes around two months for the ribbon to be absorbed and the results last around three years.

In an interview in the latest issue of Grazia magazine, plastic surgeon Alex Karidis claims Madonna was showing telltale signs of the procedure in a photograph taken days prior to the star-studded ceremony.

Mr Karidis explained: ‘[A tube-like device] is tunnelled under the skin and has lots of tiny hooks that attach to the muscle and tissue. We then pull it upwards to lift the whole area. It doesn’t appear as if the ribbon has dissolved properly. However, she looks to have cleverly covered it with a loose hairstyle at the Oscars party.’

He also suggests Madonna, who is linked to 22-year-old model Jesus Luz, may have had a separate skin resurfacing treatment.

Madonna has remained enigmatic on the subject of surgery, saying previously: ‘I am certainly not against plastic surgery; however, I am absolutely against having to discuss it.’

When I first saw the pictures from the post-Oscar Vanity Fair party, I was struck by the simple fact that Madonna’s cheeks looked somewhat deflated. Post-divorce, Madonna was photographed with a new set of enormous, painful-looking cheek implants, and it looked like Madonna got those implants taken out for the Oscars. That was my guess, anyway. Dr. Karidis may be on to something, though. Madonna could have had a procedure that was intended to “relax” over the course of months. What do you think?
