A new book claims Queen Elizabeth was left “angry” after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had decided to name their young daughter using her nickname, Lilibet.
The book, Charles III: New King. New Court. The Inside Story by journalist Robert Hardman, makes the claim. Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle share two children, Archie, four, and Lilibet, two. Lilibet was born a year after Harry and Meghan, 42, left the royal family to live “financially independent” in California.
Queen Elizabeth was ‘angry’ about Harry and Meghan using the name Lilibet, author says
According to a source in the upcoming bombshell book by Hardman, Queen Elizabeth II was “as angry as I’d ever seen her” after the name was announced.
Harry and Meghan had said she’d given her blessing for their daughter to be named Lilibet. The couple publicly said they would not have given the toddler her moniker had the then-monarch not been “supportive” of the move.
The pair were allegedly “rebuffed” when they tried to get Buckingham Palace to “co-opt” with their side of the story.

This follows reports at the time by BBC journalist Jonny Dymond on X (formerly Twitter) that they had not asked.
He claimed: “Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry over the use of her childhood nickname.”
They announced her name with a statement that said: “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
Where does the nickname Lilibet come from?
Lilibet was an intimate family-used nickname for the late queen throughout her life. Its use has been quite well documented, and she is often called the sweet pet name in the Netflix series The Crown.
It was given to the Queen, who died in September 2022 at the age of 96, by her dad King George V. This was because as a young girl, she could not pronounce her name and would say something that sounded similar. The nickname stuck, and the royals called it her into adulthood.
She even used it to refer to herself. It is known she used it to sign off a letter to her grandmother, Queen Mary.
She penned: “Darling Granny. Thank you very much for the lovely doll’s house. I do love it, and I have unpacked the dining room and the hall. Love from Lilibet.”
However, Lilibet is actually a name in its own right and not just a cute name given to King Charles’ mom. According to TheBump, the name means “God’s Promise” or “God Is My Oath.”
