Is The Crossover Based On A True Story?

Josh “Filthy McNasty” Bell and Jordan “JB” Bell are brothers who aspire to be two of the greatest basketball players of all time in the Disney+ sports drama series The Crossover.

Their father Chuck Bell, a former professional basketball player who now coaches their high school basketball team, is the coach of Filthy and JB.

Is The Crossover Based On A True Story?

“The Crossover” is not based on a true event. The popular children’s author Kwame Alexander’s self-titled book served as the inspiration for the television program.

Although Alexander’s story is fictional, the author was motivated to write it by his own twelve-year-old experiences.

The author wrote on his website about his inspiration for writing the children’s book: “I simply wanted to write a wonderful story about sports, family, friendship, and that first crush, all of which were significant to me when I was 12.” Much like it is in Filthy and JB’s and the author’s upbringing, basketball played a significant role.
