Do Pope and Kie get together in Outer Banks season 2?

Outer Banks season 2 has finally landed on Netflix which means we know exactly how the romances shake out in the sophomore season of this teen crime thriller. Yes, that includes Kiara and Pope who had something brewing between them at the tail end of the first season.

When Pope confessed his love to Kie, she didn’t receive it well. To be fair, he’d been spiraling since he walked out on his scholarship meeting for the Royal Merchant gold only for the Pogues to lose the treasure to Ward anyway. Pope was a combination of drunk and high when he told Kie he loves her, and she shut him down firmly.

However, for reasons she never gives, she changes her mind about him and kisses him later on. That’s not to say Kie returned Pope’s feelings. There wasn’t a love declaration from her in season 1. But, the two do go into Outer Banks season 2 with the possibility of being a couple.

Not even John B. and Sarah‘s presumed death halts their ship from sailing. Though we should warn you, the waters of love and romance are rocky for Pope and Kie.

Spoilers ahead for Outer Banks season 2

First, let us preface this relationship breakdown with some clarification. Technically, Pope and Kie never defined themselves in season 2. Not because Pope didn’t want to but because Kie was hot and cold with him for the majority of the season.

While they’re both grieving, Pope reverts to his usual self. He keeps his head on straight and tries to be there for his friends. Kie falls into destructive patterns. She’s looking for a good time that will distract her from the loss of two of her friends. Pope is included in that good time whenever she feels like fooling around, but she’s not open to talking about their feelings.

By the time John B. and Sarah come back in their lives, this not-couple have been doing the on-and-off dance for awhile. Eventually, Kie decides that she does want to be with Pope which leads to the two of them sleeping together. But, it’s that shared intimacy that puts an end to what had been blooming between them.

In a move that will surprise no one who questioned Kie’s sudden flip to liking Pope in season 1, Kie tells Pope she wants to remain friends. While he felt like the night they shared brought them closer, she didn’t reciprocate the sentiment.

The two were never on the same page romantically, and how Kie felt when Pope initially confessed to loving her still remains true. He’s her friend who she loves, but she’s not in love with him.
